ivermectin Tablet

Ivermectin, an anti-parasite medication, has almost become a household name in India amid the COVID-19 second wave. Ivermectin is mainly used to treat patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 infections. Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Ivermectin against coronavirus infection.

Reports from in vitro studies suggest that Ivermectin acts by inhibiting host importin alpha and beta-1 nuclear transport proteins, which are part of a key intracellular transport process Viruses hijack the process and enhance infection by suppressing the host’s antiviral response. In addition, ivermectin docking may interfere with SARS-CoV-2 spike protein attachment to the human cell membrane. Some studies of Ivermectin have also found that it might have anti-inflammatory effects, which might help people with COVID-19.

Ivermectin has been shown to inhibit replication of SARS-CoV-2 in cell cultures. However, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies suggest that achieving the plasma concentrations necessary for the antiviral efficacy detected in vitro would require administration of doses up to 100-fold higher than those approved for use in humans. Although Ivermectin appears to accumulate in lung tissue, predicted systemic plasma and lung tissue concentrations are much lower than 2 M, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) observed in vitro for Ivermectin against SARS-CoV-2. Subcutaneous administration of Ivermectin 400 g/kg had no effect on SARS-CoV-2 viral loads in hamsters. But the ratio of interleukin (IL)-6 to IL-10 in lung tissues went down, and the olfactory deficit went down (as measured by a test to find food).

The safety and efficacy of Ivermectin for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 have been evaluated in clinical trials and observational cohorts. Summaries of the studies that informed the COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel’s (the Panel's) recommendation can be found in Table 4c. The Panel looked at more studies, but they aren't summarized in Table 4c because the way they were designed or the results made them less definitive and useful.

Use this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use more of it, use it more frequently, or use it for a longer period of time than your doctor has prescribed.To do so may increase the chance of side effects.

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

For the oral dosage form (tablets):

• For river blindness:

Adults and children weighing 15 kilograms (kg) or more —Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor. The dose is usually 150 micrograms (mcg) per kilogram (kg) of body weight taken as a single dose. The treatment may be repeated every 3 to 12 months. Each tablet contains 3 milligrams (mg) of Ivermectin.

weighing 85 kg or more—150 mcg/kg of body weight taken as a single dose.

weighing 65 to 84 kg—4 tablets taken as a single dose.

weighing 45 to 64 kg—3 tablets taken as a single dose.

weighing 26 to 44 kg—2 tablets taken as a single dose.

weighing 15 to 25 kg, 1 tablet taken as a single dose.

Children weighing less than 15 kg, the use and dosage of which must be determined by a doctor.

Headache, dizziness, muscle pain, nausea, or diarrhea may occur. If you are being treated for "river blindness" (onchocerciasis), you may experience reactions to the dying parasites during the first 4 days of treatment, including joint pain, tender/swollen lymph nodes, eye swelling/redness/pain, weakness, vision changes, itching, rash, and fever. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

If you want to avoid feeling dizzy when you stand up, get up slowly from a sitting or lying position.

Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: neck/back pain, swelling of face/arms/hands/feet, chest pain, fast heartbeat, drowsiness, confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness.

A serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Take this medication by mouth with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before a meal. Ivermectin is usually taken as a single dose or a series of doses, or as directed by your doctor.

Dosage is based on your weight, medical condition, and response to treatment.

Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse.
